Stock Market Outlook entering the Week of June 19th = Uptrend
No change in the outlook for this week, although you could argue that things are mixed. From a moving average perspective, the markets didn’t hold the line last week, and fell back below the short and medium term moving averages.

Stock Market Outlook entering the Week of June 12th = Uptrend
Last week started off well, but surrendered gains heading into the weekend. From a moving average perspective, the damage was limited. But unlike recent weeks, we added a distribution day to the tally, on account of Friday’s sell-off. OEW continues to indicate an uptrend.

Stock Market Outlook entering the Week of June 5th = Uptrend
Terrible news on the fundamental front was not enough to derail the most recent rally. Non-farm payrolls came in WAY under expectations, along with a slew of other revisions and data points, which is usually enough to take the wind out of the market’s sails and send prices lower. Yet we still saw prices move higher.

Stock Market Outlook entering the Week of May 29th = Uptrend
Last week’s “small rally” forced a complete reversal in the market outlook, from downtrend to uptrend, as the indexes reclaimed their 20, 50, and in some cases 200 day moving averages. With the 20, 50, and 200 day moving averages so close to one another, the potential for further whipsaw action over the coming weeks is very high.

Stock Market Outlook entering the Week of May 22nd = Downtrend
No change in the market outlook based on last week’s trading action. Friday’s option expiration gave the expected boost to prices, but volume was a bit subdued.

Stock Market Outlook entering the Week of May 15th = Downtrend
Maybe there is some truth in the old adage “sell in May and go away”. Last weeks selling pressure continued to weaken the markets, moving the outlook from “mixed” to “downtrend”.

The February uptrend appears to be ending.Last week, the Russell 2000 joined the NASDAQ below their 200-day moving average, while the NYSE, S&P500 and DJIA tested that level during Friday’s trading session.
